The Future

Hi. If you are me, and you are reading this, then you have made it to the future. Congratulations!

Do you remember all the things that were going on your life back when you were me? If they seem like ancient history, then that is good. You have gone on and grown as a person. However if the last bit of your life blurs together into a long stream of monotony, then my friend it is time you pulled yourself out of this rut. You are not happy like this. Do something different for a change. I’m sure this is not the case because you have always looked forward to the next challenge. And let me tell you, there are many challenges you have yet to conquer.

You know, I used to try to plan for you. I used to think I knew what I wanted you to be. But if I could write to that self, I would say how young and naïve he is. To enjoy each day as it is and not worry so much about what the next day will bring. Because since I was him I have learned that planning for the future is a futile practice. The world always has unexpected ideas about what should happen to you. And the world seems fascinated at what loss does to people.

Wherever you are and whatever you are doing, I envy you. You have had more chance to grow than I. You have experienced things that I probably could never imagine at this time. You have lost things that I have, and hopefully dealt with these losses and strenghtened your character. And you are definitely a better musician than i am 🙂

The prospects for your future are just as bright as mine! Just never forget to keep reaching for the stars, and working hard.

Your biggest fan,
You, at 20.

P.S. I wish you could write back to me. You know, give me some advance wisdom. But oh well, I guess I’ll just have to learn the hard way.
