True Son: A Documentary Film Screens at Oakland Underground Film Festival

TrueSonTrue Son: A Documentary Film, which profiles young politician Michael Tubbs during his bid for the city council in Stockton, California, is being screened once again in the Bay Area, this time at the Oakland Underground Film Festival.

The film debuted at the TRIBECA Film Festival in New York on April 20, 2014, culminating a run of educational shorts aimed at today’s youth and how they can effect change in their own localities.

Michael himself has a magnetic personality and uncommon drive to do the right thing and help people, and his story, as told by director Kevin Gordon and producers Jhanvi and Ketaki Shriram, is nothing short of inspirational.

I brought my former blog-mate and current editor for Comstock Magazine Allison Joy to a screening at Stanford University, and she told me that since she saw the film she has been moved to follow the situation in Stockton and the progress of its young, ambitious council members as they try to turn the situation around.

I was so happy to be able to compose music for this worthy cause, and I am hoping that the film has a life for years to come to inspire young people to fight to right the socio-economic wrongs that plague our times.

If you are in or near Oakland, I hope you will check out the film at the Oakland Underground Film Festival. Tickets available here: http://ija.red/1rkEIwI

If not, watch for a screening in your area in the near future.
