“Softball?” you might ask. “In February? In Colorado?” Yep, yep, and uh-uh. And you know what? It was actually a pretty nice night out. Looks like all those years of spraying aerosol cans up into the atmosphere is finally starting to pay off.

No word from school yet. As I mentioned before, I don’t really expect to hear anything until April. I just checked the site, and it says my app isn’t even through the first stage of evaluation yet, so it would seem I’ve still got a while to wait.

I’ve been trying to keep the momentum going since getting my application in. It hasn’t really been easy, but I’ve tried. I actually have gotten a few projects finished.

1. My track for Pokémon: The Missingno Tracks, a ReMix album which is due out tomorrow. Pretty excited about that.
2. Finished a second round of crosswords to submit for publication. Will hopefully mail these out tomorrow.
3. Conquered Matt Gaffney’s “LITERARY FEBRUARY.”Fun times.
4. Was defensive coordinator for a team that took down the championship in Goal Line Blitz. LOL. Finally.

So I guess that stuff is not completely productive towards anything important. But it has been fun. There’s a few other things I’ve been working on, too, but they clearly aren’t interesting enough to be thought of by my brain right now.

I wanted to give a quick shout to Ben Hale, whose debut novel The Evolution of Bruno Littlemore just hit stores this last month, to widespread critical acclaim. Ben Hale and I are acquaintances from high school, and he’s the kind of dude you can sit and listen to for hours on end, because he’s a great story teller. I have my copy, but I haven’t read it yet, because…

OH YEAH. That’s another thing I accomplished. I finished reading the Old Testament. I found it pretty weird. So I’ll probably be reading the New Testament before I get to Ben’s book.

Anyhoo, I’ll be talking more about many of these things as release dates and letters come. Until then!

I actually applied once before, a year ago, and didn’t get in, but I did make it onto a wait list which I took as a promising sign. Admittedly that application was a little rushed, so I’m looking to not make the same mistake this time around.

The fact that I’m still amped about the program after a year has gone by is very significant. It turns out it’s probably a good thing I didn’t get accepted the first time, because it has lent me more insight than if I had made it right in. Often when things don’t work out I can just brush them aside and they will fade away into the past. So the fact that I still feel strongly about this program tells me that it’s probably pretty important to me, and something that’s worth throwing some effort into.

I also wanted to share that I sold another puzzle! This one is a Sunday and I sold it to the Los Angeles Times (coincidentally). The LAT is pretty cool because it is syndicated all over the country, so wherever you live, there’s a good chance there’s a paper nearby that carries it. I know the Colorado Daily runs the daily crossword and the Daily Camera runs the Sundays. Wow there were a lot of “dailys” in that sentence. But anyway, check it out if you get a chance.

To celebrate, I made a crossword for my grandpa’s birthday, since he does ‘em every morning. I’ll post it below so everyone can give it a shot.

I was just reminded recently that I have this blog sitting here, and I realized that I have a bunch of stuff that is waiting around that could be on it, I just haven’t been keeping up to date.

I was getting sick of not being able to embed stuff within the blog posts, so I’ve migrated to Byethost, which is a free host that seems to be pretty well-suited to my needs. So we will see how they do. So far so good though, you will see that I’ve got a crossword puzzle applet running, as well as embedded video, audio, and flash on many of the pages, so the experience should be vastly enhanced over what it was previously.

I’ve been busy lately, working on Albert Cook’s new project, and also submitting some new puzzle grids to various papers to try and sell one again. It’s been 2 years! It seems like not that long ago. I will try and make updates as I find out how those turn out. Also I’m making a 2nd push to apply to USC’s film scoring program, which I am massively excited about.

As you can see, I have a new location for my blog. I’ve been floundering about without an internet home ever since the sad failure of the gep-blog idea. But I’ve found some excellent free hosting by the people at WordPress.com, who I love by the way, and am using my glorious 3 GB of space to resurrect my old blog. The weird part is they won’t host media files unless you pay, so all of my music is (hopefully not too) irritatingly liked offsite to SoundClick and other places. So, you can still listen to everthing for free, they’re just not all conveniently hosted at the same location.

I still think gep was a great idea, so if any of you old gep people want an account on here and the ability to post things, I’m all for that. Just let me know. I’m just glad that this is a more permanent location, so if I accidentally don’t post for, say, a year, it’ll still be waiting for me when I get back. I’m just hoping it doesn’t become a festering cesspool of spam like the last one did. We’ll see.

Speaking of which, I haven’t posted a blog in nearly a year, so I have lots of new stuff to share. It should be good times adding all that stuff.. hopefully you’ll check in from time to time!

Also, you will note in the sidebar that my brother and I have started a webcomic. I have no idea how regularly we will update it, or how long we will be able to keep making it, but we really wanted to make use of his uncanny talent to add hilarious dialogue to pictures. Right now we are brainstorming good titles for it. Anyone have any good ideas? Please post comments with good ideas! If we get some good ones maybe I’ll have a vote or something.

I am currently a member of an indie-folk-rock band called The Body Electric (MySpace page). A little while ago, we released our 2nd EP, and it has been met with very positive feedback. It was recorded and mastered by world-class audio technicians at Rokbox Analog Fidelity in Boulder, CO, and we are very pleased with how it turned out. It’s been a great experience being part of the local indie scene. I’ve considered myself to be a musician for much of my life, which for the most part has entailed trying to create music for myself; that is to say, as a creative outlet, to keep me from going insane. It’s a whole different world trying to make the leap to having music be your trade, however, because now, in my case, I still try to pour my heart and soul into everything I create, but at the same time, I can only sit back and hope that my creations will somehow speak to others with even a fraction of the profundity that I feel when dreaming them up.

This is why it’s such a wonderful thing to see people out there supporting us in our endeavors. On the one hand, we’re all a bunch of starving artists, more or less fresh out of college, and so every bit of support we receive goes so far to helping us be able to go on with what we’re doing. At the same time, the support tells us that what we’re doing is reaching people on some level, and in the end, that is what most makes the effort to put on shows and create new music worthwhile.

So all in all, it’s hard not to feel encouraged about the direction we are headed as a band, and the direction I am headed personally as a growing musician. It’s still so early on in the process, and it’s impossible to say what the future holds, but I hope to be able to continue making music and touching people for years to come.

Hi everybody.

I seriously haven’t forgotten about this thing. I was having some trouble with the new Flatirons system so it made me not feel like posting anything for a while. However, it appears as though I’ve sorted the problem out, so I might as well start making some entries again I figure.

I have LOTS of news musics… well ok some, but much more to come. So at some point I’ll start putting those up on the music page. Also check back in a week because I should be getting the date for my recital, and that will go up as soon as I have it. I’ll be e-mailing folks too about the date too so no worries. It should be fun times, I’m really excited! The culmination of years of hard work.

It’s been very cold here and the Pats are in another Super Bowl next week. So business as usual. I don’t really have anything smart-ass or witty to say right now because I’m tired and I have class tomorrow. Anyway I’ll have plenty of time to bitch at you later.

Hey everybody, guess what! That’s right I’m back! My computer is up and running, and Flatirons is letting me connect via ftp, and so everything is just grand.

Except for the fact that the long hiatus has made everyone stop visiting the site ever.

Anyway, it’s been crazy around here. We just bore witness to one of the most amazing sports moments in history… of course I am referring the the improbable playoff berth of the New England Revolution!! Go soccer!!!!

Oh yeah, also the Bosox came back from a 0-3 deficit to win a pennant against the rival Yankees.

Yes, I booked it down to Kenmore Square right after the game to mosh, get bottles thrown at my head, have firecrackers go off under my feet and chant “JETER SWALLOWS” for nigh on 90 minutes. Not much better times to be had I must say. I mean, I was around a scant 9 months ago when the Patriots won the Super Bowl, and yeah it was a little crazy then, but this just blew that out of the water. No comparison. I guess releasing some 86 years of tension and anguish in one night can have just this sort of effect. These people love their Sox.

The best part to me is, they haven’t even won the World Series yet. And it remains to be seen I suppose, but my feeling is that beating the Yankees was just as, if not more important than actually winning the title.

In any case, this next week should be crazy-crazy. Having a World Series played a couple blocks from my apartment? How frickin’ cool is that?

So I’ll make some more posts as the situation develops. In the meantime, start visiting my site! That’s right, you! Snobby!! Too good to check in every once in a while??

Ok hopefully everything’s more or less back to normal. Links from outside the site might not work anymore, and I wasn’t able to recover comments for the main section, but they seem to be disappearing after they are 4 months old anyway, so I guess it’s not a huge deal.

I’ve got a 3-day weekend coming up, which is good because we’re in that last little push before the end of the semester, so I have myriad projects to work on, since I’ve been wasting time going to hockey games and whatnot (Whoo Pioneers! That was a sweet game..).

After the semester ends, who knows what will happen? But maybe this summer I’ll have a little time to play around with the site some more.

In the meantime, hopefully you all can figure out the new categories and find them helpful.

All right, well I’m making some organizational changes to the site to make it a little easier to navigate. The changes should have been relatively painless within iBlog, but as many of you probably know, “relatively painless” + “computer” = “everything deleted, system destroyed, havoc wreaked, etc. etc.”

So as you may or may not have noticed, all the entries are gone. I have them backed up, so I’ll be adding them back in as soon as I can, but iBlog is making it more of a pain in the ass then i had hoped.

In the meantime, keep checking back. I haven’t been writing rambling crap entries as often, but you’ll notice I’ve continued adding to the music section, and those blog entries are still intact, so head on over there and listen to some music. NOW DAMMIT!
